Büro unbekannt Berlin ist ein vom in Berlin lebenden und arbeitenden Schweizer Künstler Dominik Steinmann initiiertes Arbeitsforum, das sich auf partizipative Kunstprojekte im urbanen Raum, Szenografie und Bühnenbild spezialisiert hat. Unbekannt nennt es sich, weil in verschiedensten Projekt-Konstellationen und Feldern gearbeitet wird, neue und unbekannte Schnittstellen zwischen Kunst, Design und Bildung/Soziales geschaffen werden und letztlich alle Teilnehmenden und Partizipierenden an den Projekten dieses Label ausmachen. Büro unbekannt Berlin baut zum Beispiel mit geflüchteten Menschen aus ausgedientem Klinik-Inventar neue Upcycling Möbel, konzipiert für Obdachlose Menschen innovative Stadtmöbel als Notübernachtungsplatz, baut Sportgeräte zum Müllentsorgen auf ausrangierten Sportplätzen oder gestaltet Ausstellungen zum Thema Integration und Zugehörigkeit. Oder Dominik entwirft als Einzelkünstler für Performances und Theaterkollektive Räume und Kostüme. Ab und an entstehen aus purer Handwerkslust Möbelunikate, Objekte oder ganze Plattenbauwohnungs-Repliken.
Büro unbekannt Berlin is a label initiated by the Swiss artist Dominik Steinmann, who lives and works in Berlin. It specializes in participatory art projects in urban space, scenography and stage design. It is called "unbekannt" (unknown) because it works in the most diverse project constellations and fields, creates new and unknown intersections between art, design and education/social issues, and ultimately makes up all those who participate in the projects of this label. Büro unbekannt Berlin, for example, builds new upcycling furniture with refugees from disused hospital inventory, conceives innovative street furniture for homeless people as emergency overnight accommodation, builds sports equipment for waste disposal on discarded sports fields or designs exhibitions on the theme of integration and belonging. Or Dominik designs rooms and costumes as an individual artist for performances and theater collectives. From time to time, unique pieces of furniture, objects or entire replicas of prefabricated housing are created out of pure craftsmanship.
